Soorarai Pottru- Sky high dreams

Introduction-How soorarai pottru.

In the year 2003, Director Ms.Sudha kongara’s family (Arnd 12-13 ppl) was readying to leave for a holiday to Shimla. When the family was planning to book train tkts, Sudha’s sister-in-law read in Internet that a man from Bangalore was selling flight tkts for Re.1. She managed to book two 1 Re tkts and rest at Rs.500. In the year 2010, Sudha made her debut as director with movie called Drohi followed by quite a few films. One day she saw a tv programme on business tycoons that featured Capt GR Gopinath (Retd), the same person who helped her family fly to Shimla. Ten years later, now in 2020 Sudha roped in actor Suriya to make sorrarai potru which is incidentally the story on Gopinath’s life.

Suriya as Nedumaaran Rajangam.

Suriya’s brilliant performance in the movie has indeed touched many hearts of movie buffs. He has played the role of capt.gopinath as nedumaaran, son of a school teacher who hails from a rural village called sholavandhan near Madurai who dreams of starting a low-cost airline after quitting his job from IAF. He is a man who is obsessed with his dreams & willing to go anywhere to make it come true. He chases his dreams inspite of several set backs in life. For the entire length of the movie, Suriya is best in his emotions as Maara.
He smiles, he cries, he gets angry, he protests, he fights & finally he flies.

Oorvasi, Never let down.

Maara’s mother played by oorvasi has done an outstanding job who has also played a vital clog in another movie ‘Mookuthi amman’ . Oorvasi’s words in the movie as she narrates the quotes written by maara’s father in bit papers actually makes maara dream.

Bommi bakery, A sweet thing.

Role of Bommi played by Aparna balamurali is a real life inspiration, narrating the character of a woman behind a man’s success. Maara & Bommi had shared screen space quite well though chemistry between male & female lead doesn’t go well. A scene in which Bommi talks business with her husband Maara for selling bakery items inside the flight, The business deal closes within few secs. Incidentally in real life, Capt.Gopinath’s wife made around 7-8 crores turnover during the 1st year itself by selling bakery items inside Air Deccan.

‘I own the flight my friend‘

Paresh has played a classy role in the movie who reminds of a corporate villain. In the movie, he is the owner of jaz airlines who feels that the rich remains rich and poor always remain poor. In one of the scenes Paresh will reply to Suriya as ‘you own the ticket and I own the flight my friend’ . This dialogue will surely be itched in our memories for a long long time.

The others.

Karuna’s who has played character of Bommi’s uncle has done a cameo. In one of the scenes, he gives his savings of 11K to Suriya to start the airline co. This scene gave real strength to the movie. Maara’s friend Kaali Venkat has also done his part in the movie. Maara’s friends Chaitanya and Sebastian who comes for most length of the movie has played key vital roles. Another scene in which the people from maara’s village will do their part of depositing money into maara’s account for him to start the airline company. According to me, This is one of the best scene in the movie by director Sudha.

Dream big, The sky is yours.

The story of Capt.Gopinath is one of the inspiring to many others who are dreaming big not only for themselves but also for the benefit of others. There will be indeed struggles, failures, again failures and lot of failures but inspite of many failures, one who doesn’t give up his/her dream and puts constant effort is sure to be a winner one fine day.

Thanks for reading.
